SARAVANA STORES | 2013 – PRESENT
Building Retail at Scale
The defining chapter of my leadership journey
Introduction
In April 2013, I joined Saravana Stores as Vice President – Retail Operations. What followed became the most defining chapter of my career — a journey of transforming retail operations, building businesses, developing people and continuously finding better ways to serve customers.
From managing stores to building systems, teams and transformation.
THE CHALLENGE
From Store Operations to Retail Transformation
When I joined Saravana Stores in 2013, I stepped into a large, complex retail environment with a clear mandate — improve operations, strengthen systems and build a stronger organisation.
The challenge was not simply to run stores better.
It was to bring together people, processes, technology, merchandising, supply chain and customer experience into one operating system capable of working at scale.
That became the foundation of my transformation journey.
RETAIL AT SCALE
6 Stores | 3 Warehouses | 6,000+ People | 32 Categories | 300,000+ SKUs
A BUSINESS THAT DEMANDS SYSTEMS
Managing retail at this scale meant moving beyond individual store decisions and building systems that could consistently work across locations, categories and teams.
My focus evolved across operations, merchandising, supply chain, inventory, people development, technology and customer experience.
The objective was simple: make a large retail organisation work better — every day.
RETAIL
TRANSFORMATION
13 YEARS OF BUILDING RETAIL AT SCALE
From store operations to systems, people, technology and business transformation — my journey at Saravana Stores has been about making a complex retail organisation work better, every day.

BUILDING THE OPERATING SYSTEM
From managing stores to building systems.
When I joined Saravana Stores in 2013, the mandate was clear — improve operations, strengthen systems and build an organisation capable of scale.
My focus expanded beyond day-to-day store management to building stronger processes, accountability, visibility and operating discipline across stores, categories and teams.
The objective was simple: make a large retail organisation work better — every day.

TRANSFORMING PEOPLE & CULTURE
From managing people to building ownership.
Retail transformation is ultimately a people transformation. My focus was to build a culture where teams understood not just what to do, but why it mattered.
I introduced simple, repeatable practices around daily communication, training, accountability and recognition to strengthen ownership across the frontline workforce.
The objective was simple: create teams that take
ownership — not just instructions.

BUILDING NON-TEXTILES
From a supporting category to a growth engine.
At Saravana Stores, I played a key role in expanding the Non-Textiles business, moving it from a relatively smaller contributor into a significant growth engine across multiple categories.
The focus was on assortment, sourcing, private labels, imports, margins and category development — creating a stronger and more profitable business beyond the traditional textile-led model.
The objective was simple: build new growth engines without losing the strength of the core business.

TECHNOLOGY & DATA
From fragmented information to better decisions.
As the business grew, technology became essential to creating visibility, control and speed of decision-making.
My focus was on strengthening the use of SAP, MIS, dashboards, sales and inventory analytics to move teams from manual reporting towards more data-driven retail management.
The objective was simple: put the right information in the hands of the right people — at the right time.
